My Background

Spiro Demetriadi, Agent

Over the past 25 years my life's mission focused on providing Combatives and Tactical Training, Education and High-Tech Equipment to the world's most elite Military and Law Enforcement Special Operations Units that resulted in increasing their protection, operational capabilities and survivability, so that they could come home to their families alive and in one piece. My work is well known in the Defense/Homeland Security industry and I am blessed to have sweated with, as well as worked with and learned side-by-side with the best of the best trainers and operators. Let's just say I have an affection for “Door-Kickers”!

Some of the notable works I am humbled to be part of include:

  • Director and Senior Advisor of Military/Law Enforcement Combatives for the word famous Gracie University/Gracie Academy.
  • Contributed to the foundation of the US Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP).
  • Early development of the Los Angeles Police Department's ARCON (Arrest and Control) Unit.
  • Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Advanced Training Command Combatives School.
  • Revamping  the Defensive Tactics program for BORTAC (Border Patrol Tactical Unit), that eventually rolled out to the entire US Border Patrol.
  • Provided night vision, lasers and low-light/no-light tactical training to Federal, State, County and Local Law Enforcement Special Operations Units.
  • On the team that created the only DHS certified Active Shooter Countermeasures course for civilians named ACT Cert.

To me, there was never any compromise on quality and effectiveness when choosing or recommending a certain type of training or equipment. What I sold had to be “reality-based” and not based on theory. If I could not stake my life on the training or gear, then I would never recommend it to others. That is why I deliberately chose to be an agent for the New York Life Insurance Company, because the company has  a 174-year proven history (founded in 1845) and has received the highest financial strength ratings currently awarded to any US life insurer by Standard & Poor's (AA+); A.M. Best (A++); Moody's (Aaa); and Fitch (AAA). Source: Individual Third-Party Ratings Reports as of 10/15/20.

Right after graduating high school, I went to military school and then got commissioned as a US Army Infantry Officer. I got a solid education on leadership, organization, operations and infantry tactics, including getting my Airborne wings at Fort Benning.

I am a seasoned businessman and have gotten “tapped out” far more times than I can count in business and this is to the benefit of my New York Life clients because I fully understand the pains and challenges to running a business!

Some other past entrepreneurial ventures include creating an entertainment services company, a restaurant/night club and a private label apparel manufacturing company, whose customers included Walmart, Billabong and Oakley. The only two “jobs” I had later in life were running sales and marketing for the night vision company Morovision and being the Outdoor Group Publisher for Engaged Media, responsible for popular magazine titles such Gun World, American Survival Guide and World of Firepower.

These lifetime skills I learned were also applied to serving my church and running numerous fundraisers and events that raised millions of dollars for just causes.

Around 2010, after my first son was born, I woke up one day and realized that with all the money I had made, I was not satisfied with my retirement plans. I had a BMW and Mercedes in the garage but did not live an overly extravagant lifestyle, especially in Orange County (OC), California, one of the most expensive places to live in the US,

There was no steady salary, benefits or pension, it was all up to me. I had the hard corps “all in” mentality. I did not save enough money because I wanted to plow it all back into my business ventures. Anything less meant I was not fully committed, which in hindsight was a big mistake. Life and business would have gone on just fine living off 80% or 90% of my net income and the rest (10% or 20%) could have gone into my future.

I asked this question of myself: “How do people create a lifetime income stream for retirement?”

Some answers I discovered were that it takes a smart person to make money, but it takes a genius to learn how to keep it. I learned that making lots of money certainly can make someone wealthy but the key to no matter how much money you make is to have a proven strategy to:

  • First: Protect your wealth
  • Then second: Grow your wealth
  • Then thirdly: Distribute your wealth at retirement

I enjoy collaborating with like-minded folks like myself. The paradox I have discovered quite often is that the folks who “Protect and Serve” are so busy with their operational tempo and personal life that they do not put the similar effort, thought and passion into learning to protect their Money and Retirement like they do in protecting others. My mission is changing that - one Warrior at a time.

The majority of folks I meet today do not have enough protection for their family, should something happen to them and they are not satisfied with how they envision their retirement looking Iike in the future.

As a family man and a father of three sons under 10 years old, I have many of the same hopes and aspirations as my clients and am happy to share with you all the resources and information New York Life has to offer.

Depending on your needs, I can introduce you to some ways to help protect your family's lifestyle and future, your business; or prepare for major financial events such as paying for college, saving for retirement, or caring for an aging relative. To be the best possible agent, I've found that getting to know my clients – their hopes, dreams and goals for the future – is the most important first step. So, if you're looking for someone that's ready to put their expertise and experience to work for you, please contact me. – I got your 6!
